Cow Face Pose

Cow Face Pose is a great release for the outer hips. It feels amazing to do after a strong leg-based practice!

Alignment Principles

  • Start in a seated position with both legs extended straight out in front of you
  • Hug the legs together
  • Cross the right knee over the left knee with the right heel pulled in towards the outer left hip
  • If permitting, pull the left heel in towards the outer right hip
  • Both knees should be stacked directly in your midline with both sitting bones grounded
  • Inhale you right arm up to the sky and pat the space between your shoulder blades
  • Exhale your left arm back behind you as you reach up to hold your right hand
  • Think about pointing your right elbow straight up towards the sky
  • Keep the spine long, chin lifting and gently pressing back

 

Prep. Poses:

  • Eagle Pose (Garudasana)
  • Butterfly (Baddha Konasana)
  • Sleeping Pigeon

Modifications/Variations:

  • Use a strap or towel between the hands
  • Sit on a block
  • Keep the bottom leg straight
